The Extron DXP 42 HD 8K is a high performance 4x2 HDMI matrix switcher that accepts 8K/60 and other combinations of high resolutions and high frame rates. Supported HDMI 2.1 specifications include data rates up to 40.1 Gbps, VRR, HDR, Deep Color up to 12‑bit, 3D, and HD lossless audio formats. Key technologies include EDID Minder® Plus for advanced display compatibility, SpeedSwitch® for fast switching, and Key Minder® for continuous HDCP 2.3 authentication. Integration features include input cable equalization, Ethernet control, output muting, and audio de embedding. Comprehensive EDID Management

To ensure professional AV systems perform as designed, it is crucial that EDID communication between video sources and sink devices is managed properly. Correct management of EDID allows source equipment to send video and audio signals in formats and parameters that best match display device capabilities. Mishandling of EDID could result in suboptimal image quality, no image, and/or poor sound.

The DXP 42 HD 8K features a suite of Extron-exclusive technologies and tools for complete control over EDID management. To reliably display and distribute 8K, 5K, and 21:9 aspect ratio content, EDID Minder Plus provides enhanced 512-byte EDID emulation for supporting additional memory blocks needed to convey advanced display capabilities via EDID and DisplayID structures. Color bit depth is automatically adjusted based on the display EDID, which prevents color compatibility conflicts between the source and the display. Users can choose from several pre-stored EDID profiles or capture and save EDID from a connected display. EDID Minder is easily accessible in Extron PCS software. The newest version of EDID Manager is a freely downloadable Windows® utility for viewing and editing EDID files. This software enables video format optimization, chroma sampling and color bit depth manipulation, and adjustment to audio capabilities. Edited files may be saved, added to the library, and easily applied to devices within the system.

Easy Integration and Fast, Reliable Switching

Digital audio can be de‑embedded from any input and assigned to analog stereo outputs for easy integration with a sound system. Advanced features such as input cable equalization, which restores and reshapes incoming HDMI signals, reduces the need for additional signal conditioning equipment by compensating for weak source signals or signal loss from a long input cable. For HDMI signals with protected content, Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP encryption between input and output devices to ensure quick and reliable switching. Extron SpeedSwitch Technology enables the DXP 42 HD 8K matrix switcher to deliver exceptional, virtually instantaneous switching speeds for HDCP‑encrypted content.

The DXP 42 HD 8K also provides +5 VDC, 250 mA on each output. This enables powering of peripheral devices such as the Extron HD Pro Plenum Series active, hybrid optical-copper cables for high-speed transmission of HDMI digital video, and audio signals over longer cable runs.

CEC - Consumer Electronics Control capability - Standard, built-in CEC commands can be triggered to control displays or other AV devices connected over HDMI. The ability to control specific functions, such as power on/off, input selection, or volume level, is dependent on implementation by the device manufacturer.
Comprehensive EDID management - Use PCS software to access EDID Minder for setting video input EDID, capturing EDID from connected displays, or uploading custom EDID files. Proper EDID management ensures that sources and displays are easily integrated into a system resulting in optimized system operation. Freely downloadable EDID Manager 3.0 software is available for advanced EDID editing and creating custom EDID files.
EDID Minder® Plus automatically manages EDID communication between connected devices - EDID Minder Plus supports additional memory blocks for displays that convey advanced features via both EDID and DisplayID for proper management of the extended EDID information required to reliably display and distribute 5K and 21:9 aspect ratio content.
Key Minder® continuously verifies HDCP compliance - Key Minder authenticates and maintains continuous HDCP-encryption between all input and output devices to enable simultaneous distribution of a single source signal to multiple displays.
Output volume control - Provides volume control for the audio outputs. Analogue audio outputs can be balanced or unbalanced and are available as stereo or independently mixed mono.
Selectable output muting - Provides the capability to mute one or more outputs at any time for video, audio, and/or sync. This allows content to be viewed on a local monitor prior to appearing on the main presentation display.
SpeedSwitch® Technology provides exceptional switching speed for HDCP-encrypted content
User-selectable HDCP authorisation - Allows the unit to appear HDCP compliant or non-HDCP compliant to the connected source, which is beneficial if the source automatically encrypts all content when connected to an HDCP-compliant device. Protected material is not passed in non-HDCP mode.
HDCP Visual Confirmation provides a green signal when encrypted content is sent to a non-compliant display - When HDCP-encrypted content is transmitted to a non-HDCP compliant display, a full screen green signal is sent to the display for immediate visual confirmation that protected content cannot be viewed on that display.
Automatic Colour bit depth management - The DXP 42 HD 8K automatically adjusts Colour bit depth based on the display EDID, preventing Colour compatibility conflicts between source and displays.
HDMI to DVI Interface Format Correction - Automatically reformats HDMI source signals for output to a connected DVI display.
HDCP authentication and signal presence LED indicators - Front panel LED indicators for signal presence and HDCP authentication provide real time feedback and monitoring of key performance parameters.
